Pressured by the European Commission, a number of member states have introduced new iGaming regulatory frameworks over the past decade or so. In most cases, the new regimes have relaxed certain limitations and have opened the countries’ markets to international online gambling operators. There are two main types of gambling services offered within Sweden’s borders – regulated and unregulated ones. Here it is important to note that unregulated services are not strictly prohibited under the country’s existing laws, but are not very welcome by regulators and authorities.

Casino du Liban, a gaming and entertainment establishment, aims to launch an online gaming platform. The venture will be in partnership with an international company. A tender has been launched with a deadline of January 19 to submit the proposals. The terms of reference states that bidders “should be already generating their own revenues of not less than $650 million, of which 75 percent should be from gaming and gambling activities.” It also states that the winning bidder “should be committed to investing a minimum of $15 million.”

Several US states are having difficulties concerning burdensome process of legalizing online gambling within their borders, Virginia is trying to establish clearer definitions on what is legal in terms of gambling and what is not. Virginia Sen. Louise Lucas introduced last week a new gambling bill – S 1400, that, among other things, is aimed at regulating poker as a game of skill. Being classified as a game whose outcome is not based on chance, poker would no longer be illegal in the Commonwealth.

Hawaii has joined the myriad of US states to be considering the legalization of online poker and other Internet gambling options. A 29-page bill (SB 677) has been introduced by Sen. Will Espero earlier this month that if signed into law will strip Hawaii of its status as one of the few states without any legalized gambling options within its borders.

Recent U.S. lottery ticket suppliers IGT Global Solutions and Global slot machine, reported that they will invest $15 million in an expansion project for their ticket press facility in Florida .The expansion project is to create room for a new ultramodern servo-controlled TRESU ticket press that will hopefully increase the company’s pressing capacity by up to 30%, according to the announcement, and will help them with their 13 year supply deal they’ve recently signed with the Florida lottery.

After less than a year of construction, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation has announced that the first new casino for the province of Ontario is set to open tomorrow offering a selection of 450 slots alongside 18 gaming tables and a VIP mixed-games area. The $31 million Shorelines Casino Belleville, which is also set to have a patio area, a small stage for live entertainment, a lounge and an all-glass buffet restaurant complete with outside views, will welcome its first players from 5pm local time on Wednesday following a special ceremony featuring a variety of live acts as well as commemorative giveaways and promotions
